Jewelry for every Occasion.
As a maker, it’s easy for me to tell you that jewelry is an incredibly important part of every outfit. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it’s an incredibly important part of every major life occasion.
I can remember the jewelry I was wearing when I met my husband. When I found out that I was going to have my daughter. On the opening night of my shop, Dune Gift + Home. The special pieces that I’ve chosen for each of these moments have a lasting place in my memory, and they carry with them the stories of my life.
Though Valentine’s Day can feel overhyped at times, I truly believe that it can be an opportunity to express our love for the people in our lives - and the jewelry we choose for this day can help to convey that message. Whether you’re planning on heading out for a candlelit dinner, or staying in and cozying up for a movie on the couch, you can make the night feel just a bit more special by incorporating a standout piece of jewelry into your look.
What Jewelry to Wear This Valentine’s Day
Drop or chandelier earrings
I’m inspired more and more by the way the light hits drop earrings and chandelier earrings, those varieties that, instead of hugging or sitting against your ear float further down below. They move with you, swiveling in space as you talk through a topic you’re passionate about. They frame your face when you’re lost in thought. From earthy pearl beads to glinting gold snakes, you can make a statement with this piece of jewelry without saying a word.
Stacks of rings
I find hands to be pretty romantic. Not only because of those unspoken implications, but because you can tell so much about a person by their hands. The scars on their knuckles, the length of their nails, even the way they hold a pencil or gesture as they talk tells you a lot about who they are and where they’ve been. For a date night, I like to accent this part of my body with stacks of rings ranging from a minimalist loop to a large labradorite stone set in 14k gold.
Simple pendant necklace
Valentine’s Day is meant to be spent with the one you love, so you don’t need to impress anyone else but them. Instead of going big and bold this year, I’m leaning toward a more delicate necklace, something that sits elegantly on décolletage without concealing it. A stick pearl on a thin chain or something subtly celestial like a simple moon or sun emblem could be the perfect piece to highlight your beauty without overwhelming you.
As you’re making your Valentine’s Day plans, don’t forget to think through what jewelry you’ll wear. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll walk away from the night with a new piece from your partner to cherish, something that is destined to be a part of your biggest moments and last in your memory for years and years to come.
